Ultra Violet Coating
Our vinyl planking is finished by using the latest technology. We coat it with a UV cured Aluminum Oxide finish. Aluminum oxide is the most resilient, longest lasting finish on the market to date and it’s 100% environmentally friendly. This is the same finish found on nearly all prefinished high end flooring.
UV coatings meet regulatory guidelines for low HAPs and VOC content. Being 100% solids and having thermo set polymer structure, UV coatings offer high strength, superior chemical resistance, strong adhesion and excellent abrasion and mar resistance. This special coating process offers improved productivity and performance by being a user-friendly and low temperature cure coating.
UV-curable coatings are cross-linked coatings (with high-solids) cured by concise exposure to intense ultraviolet light. The cure schedules for these types of coatings are incredibly fast - usually less than five seconds - allowing finishing lines to be shortened, line speeds increased, and products immediately handled and packaged. Also, because these products are high solids with little or no VOCs, compliance to stricter VOC regulations is made easier.
Wear Layer Durability
UV cured finishes have a far superior resistance to wear and scratching than any other coating on the market today. The finish is baked on with high-intensity UV lamps and as it goes through, each layer it is built upon the previous layer. A huge advantage to UV coatings includes increased superior hardness and durability compared to conventional coatings (such as PVC).
Impact on the Environment
Because there are no VOC emissions from finish evaporation, there are absolutely no harmful vapors emitted into our atmosphere. UV finishes emit no VOCs, and UV coatings cure through polymerization rather than evaporation. All UV coatings can be formulated to meet state, federal, and local environmental regulations. This special coating also creates a much more hospitable work environment.
